Four Oaks and Lutheran Services in Iowa now manage respective areas for foster and adoptive families.

In order to serve foster and adoptive families closer to where they live, Iowa’s Foster Care and Adoption Services will now be divided between Four Oaks and Lutheran Services of Iowa. Four Oaks will be serving areas 2-5. LSI will be serving area 1.

    Keeping Kids Safe: Introduction to Human Trafficking and Internet Safety

    This training will be hosted by Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA). It will be an interactive PowerPoint presentation with discussion and activities. The presentations will focus on current statistics, stories, signs, and symptoms of trafficking victims, and working through trauma as it relates to labor and sex trafficking.

    The Internet Safety presentation will discuss current sites and apps that children use and that predators frequent. We will review how to know if a site or app is dangerous, how to monitor it, and set healthy boundaries. State law as it relates to “sexting” and the sending, receiving, and sharing of nude or semi-nude photos will be discussed and reviewed.

    Decorah: Grief and Loss Issues in Foster Care and Adoption

    Children and youth separated from their families through placement in foster care or through adoption will experience varying degrees of grief and loss.  Recognizing signs and stages of loss children are experiencing can assist caregivers in helping children express emptions and recover from loss in healthy ways.  Foster and adoptive families may also experience grief and loss through children leaving foster care and being reunified or through a disruption of placement of the child in the home, to name a few.  Attendees of this training will learn about the impact of grief and loss on children and families, and how to promote healing and self-care toward emotional recovery and resilience. Approved for 3 hours foster parent training credit.
