Cedar Falls: Healthy Hair and Skin Care for Children of Color

Healthy hair and skin care is essential to a child’s sense of identity, self-esteem and to overall well-being.

This training provides foster and adoptive parents an opportunity to learn instructions, tools, and tips for healthy and positive ways for proper care of hair and skin of children of color.

Participants will learn about appropriate skin and hair care routines, correct and incorrect products to use, hair styling steps and tools, and caring for common skin conditions such as eczema.

This course is designed to help families cope with lying and stealing behaviors in children by providing insight into how and when it is normal for children to lie or steal, reasons these behaviors may be ongoing, and the potential impact of trauma and unmet needs. Families will learn strategies and responses to help prevent and reduce the incidence of these behaviors in their home. This training is approved for 3 hours of foster parent training credit.

                        Do you have some extra room in your home AND heart?

                                                   Consider becoming a foster parent for Iowa's children! 

                         

                         We are looking for families who can care for larger sibling groups and school aged children who need safe foster homes!

  Youth enter foster care through no fault of their own and need a caring, stable family for temporary care, a few days to several months, or for the purpose of permanency through guardianship or adoption. 

                      Foster parents can be a single person or a partnered or married couple and come from diverse and varied backgrounds.

   If you want to help but aren’t ready to become a foster parent, you can make a difference by referring someone you know who would be a great foster/adoptive family or by volunteering to help us get the word out about Four Oaks Fostering Connections.

             Please plan to attend and hear more about how you can help your community support children & families in the child welfare system.

Hampton: Trauma Training: The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

This training will assist foster and adoptive parents in gaining insight and skills to respond to trauma and its impact on the behavior of children in the home. Parents and caregivers will learn how to recognize the brain’s responses to trauma triggers, why children may be on a heightened state of alert due to past trauma, and how they can help children heal from trauma and learn to regulate their emotions and behavioral responses in healthy ways.  This training is approved for 3 hours of foster parent training credit.
